X-Mugen : Play MUGEN on your Xbox console !

Important: Xmugen is not a Xbox port for Mugen, it was "emulated" from the Linux version with distros made by darcelf ( http://darcelf.tk ) for run in the original Xbox console.

X-MUGEN ONLY WORKS FOR THE ORIGINAL XBOX:

IT WILL NOT WORK FOR THE XBOX 360 !!!!

First:
if your xbox is not modded, you don't have any chance to play Xmugen on it. In fact, the xbox browser changes when you have it modded, so you must have it ready to understand the way I explained how to install it.
My Xbox has this soft-mod:
version Dash : 0.38.0515A Build 565 . I wish it can helps u.
Info about UnleashX
How Install UnleashX

VERY IMPORTANT: you MUST have a S-controller to play Xmugen !!!! :

Other control models won't work !

I offer to you 2 ways of getting Xmugen working in your console:

1.- Installing Xmugen in your console:

Once is downloaded, unzip the file.

Next steps:

a.-Burn it in a data DVD, I recommend using Xiso wich is a tool to create Xbox isos since the console doesn't recognizes "simple" data DVDs (or if you want  carry the files through FTP way from your pc to the console; details about it in the "Q&A" section).
b.- The folder "Files for install on the Xbox" has these content:
* a "mugen" folder
* a "linuxboot.cfg" file

Those 2 things must be in the E partition of the HDD of your console ( the 2 things maybe in a different folder as F or G, all depends of your console ; in MY Xbox, they work in the E partition).

Once installed, open the "mugen" folder and execute the default.xbe file.
It will take you to a blue screen with the Gentoox Loader, and execute the "FatX" option.
A DOS screen will appear with the picture of darcelf and after some seconds, the typical Mugen screen menu will appear...in your TV !!!!
In the case if appears the "mugen info" who doesn't allow you tu start to use the game, press the "R" analog into "the font" and ready !

PS: inside the "mugen" folder there are instructions in the README file for run it from DVD ; I have not tried this yet, so if you wanna try read those instructions.

2.- An ISO ready to burn and play it directly from DVD:

Here's an ISO ready to play a XMugen game from DVD on XBOX:
part1
part2

That ISO contains a "KOF XI vs Neo Geo Battle Colliseum" game.
( I don't know about the polices of that game -author's permissions- if are OK or not, I didn't upload it ; but please try to understand, many guys want to play Mugen in their consoles and perhaps this DVD it's their only chance ).
You must download the 2 files , then unzip them ( they must be in the SAME folder before unzip ) and you'll get a DVD iso for burn.

In the case if the Xmugen for install doesn't work in your console, try this to know if your dashboard is compatible or not with Xmugen. In every soft-modded Xbox I've tried that DVD, it works !!!!

Q&A:

Q.- can I have more than 1 mugen game installed on my console ?
A.- Yes, you can, but just you can have ONE folder called " mugen " .
On my xbox I have 3 mugens, I have one called " mugen " , other " mugen2 " and other " mugen 3 " . When you wanna use one of the mugens, you must rename to "mugen " the game u wanna play. In my case, the "mugen2 " & "Mugen3" I must rename as " mugen " when I'll use one of them, and my other "mugen " directory must be renamed.
I speak spanish, so I wish you could understand what I was trying to teach.

Q.- How can I import mugen stuff from my PC to the XBox ?
A- to copy from pc to xbox there's 2 ways:
- burn a data DVD with your files (screenpacks/stages/chars/endings/MP3/etc.)
to carry them to ur Xbox.
- FTP mode (  I recommend using  Flash XP; and THIS tutorial for easily can FTP the console with the PC using FlashXP)

Q.- The characters' files  must be upper or lower case ?
A.- don't care if is lower or upper case , the fact is ALL most coincide
as is written in the def files.

example:
in the folder of your char, the sound file looks of this form:

cvsryu.SND

So in the character's def file must say:

sound = cvsryu.SND

That's all. But anyways I recommend use the "xmugen renamer" program, it will save you so many time.
(The installable Xmugen that I hosted up includes the "xmugen renamer").

* Don't know how to use my "Xbox Browser" so how do I install it to my xbox when I burn my stuff to a dvd ?
A.- Go to the browser of your MODDED Xbox ( is your xbox already modded, isn't ? ) , open the dvd files, mark then with the X button, press starst and choose Copy ; then press R for go to the right menu and open the folder where the files will be copied, press start and choose PASTE.
Xbox Media Center works too to do this.

* Can I edit the select.def ( and all def files ) from the console for adding stuff ?
A.- YES. You can. Just when having installed the Xmugen files in your console, change the
".def" ( or the CNS or CMD files too) into ".cfg". So now you can edit in the "wordpad" mode for adding/quitting stuff (characters/screenpacks/stages/MP3/endings/intros/logos/etc.) to your custom game.
Once time you finish, save the changes and rename the file changing the ".cfg" into ".def" ( or ".cns" or ".cmd") again.
PS: remember the CaSe SeNsItIve thing for not suffer crashes.

* the only crashes that I've suffered:
- when a char/stage definitively is not compatible ( it happens in all mugen versions, not always the 100% of the chars that you have work in all the mugens).
- when a char/stage has the cAsE SeNsItIvE problem, easy to fix with the mugen renamer program or just can be done manually by yourself.
- some times the palettes have bugs, for fix that, use dos2win , you must copy it on the directory of the char, execute it, a DOS window will be opened, press Y or N and it will fix that problem ( the only char that I can never could fix the palettes is Evil Ken ; it fix many bugs too, as example, when some characters put in "slow motion" the round - thing that doesn't happen in the DOS or Windows versions - with some movements or special movements)
- with those tips, u shouldn't have any crashes , in fact, my 3 xmugen games don't have any crash at all  ( well, I had to fix a LOT of things for do that ).

*.- some japanese characters make "copy crashes" when you copy the char in the HDD, but just are stupid files ( principally are notes from the authors or some gifs/tutorials ) so in that case you just have to go copying the necessary files for the char . It's not very hard to understand. But it's very rare that the game from the ISO of the link that I gave you run the japanese chars with no problems, it seems is just when you install it on the HDD.
You will suffer this thing with some chars from the ISO that I posted, so read very well this part, is just a little "nightmare" easy to solve.

*.- some movements are hard to execute in some characters. The Xbox controller may have some difficults in make "hadoken" sequences, better said,  the "two directions at the same time" sequences. To fix it, open the CMD file of your character ( in your pc or xbox with the method I explained before ) and search for your movement.
Example: let's open a "Ryu" character:

hadoken: D,DF,F + y

That means = hadoken: DOWN, DOWNFORWARD, FOWARD + y ( a punch button )
Just delete the DF and must be now:

hadoken: D,F + y

Or another option is put more time to do the sequences.
You perhaps will see some like this:

Hadoken: D,DF,F, y
time = 10

* here increase the time, for example to 20/25:

Hadoken: D,DF,F,y
time = 25

May the "time" not be put originally in your char; you can add it simply writing like this example.

And now the movements will be easiest to do.
Many times the "DF" and "DB" sequences are hard to work in some characters ( that's
cause the time programmed for make the sequence ; I recommend better deleting
the DF and DB sequences than changing the time for do the moves ).
That fix many "headaches" that some characters give us some times, specially some "SNK supers sequences" as the KOF'97 Iori's supers.

* Xmugen is not compatible with Midi/wav files.

With all these instructions, you must have Xmugen working finally on your Xbox !!!!!!!!
